Excellent New Chinese Restaurant Hits the Waterfront

Yuan is a lovely and super tasty new Chinese restaurant to check out in JC. It is downtown in the former home of Raaz on Washington Boulevard, right by the Newport Mall. Raaz specialized in authentic high quality Indian cuisine that served a loyal clientele and the team behind Yuan are applying that same principle to their Chinese cuisine.

The menu has a large Szechuan imprint and while that regional cuisine is known for bringing on the spiciness, there are plenty of tasty menu items that don’t bring that heat. The real star on this menu is the whole bass fish that arrives at your table wrapped in foil. Your server lights it up and unwraps it. A truly great piece of fish follows that rather spectacular presentation.

If you are looking for validation for the quality of this food, do not trust us. Trust the fact that on three separate occasions we had to wait considerably for both their brunch and dinner sittings. Also FYI the restaurant is BYOB. Congratulations to this very nice team of restauranters. They for sure have a hit on their hands!
